Notes

The tent was a little wet from overnight rain and dew and we packed it up damp. I was away by ten o'clock and onto roads with light traffic. Our small Camping Gaz gas cylinder was on it's last legs so I looked out for a replacement, eventually finding one in a hardware store in Frammersbach.

I met Liz for lunch in Bad Orb, a very pleasant town with a cobbled central square. She had found a small restaurant where a number of other elderly couples were eating, rather appropriate really. She had discovered that in these small restaurants there was always a table laid out for locals at which, as a visitor, it was necessary to avoid sitting. Sure enough there was a table with an extra-clean and starched cloth close to the desk where no-one sitting. We decided not to push our luck and sat elsewhere.

I cycled through the rolling Spessart countryside, sometimes wooded, over a domed stretch of country and down the other side into yet more rolling open farm land; Uphill and down-dale cycling through pleasant villages, all with farm yards directly off the main street, often straddling a stream that I had to dip down to and then climb up the other side.

The camp site was really very good indeed with spotless facilities but for the past few weeks had suffered a lot of rain and the ground was waterlogged. The camp site manager was quite distraught saying that their season had been badly affected, but that the forecast was for an improvement later in the week. Many of the electric hook-up points were not working and we had to hunt round with our long extension cable to get power. It was dry when I arrived but by the time I washed my sweaty cycling clothes I had to hang them up in the rain.
