Notes
Here Torfmann takes a strict line to his ultimate destination by going from Bremen to Cuxhaven, and then a longish cruise back up the Elbe to Brunsbüttel. I took two days to get across the Elbe, and eventually crossed it further up-stream at Wischhafen. However, for this day, I veered east for a campsite between Deinstedt and Plönjeshausen, on the way to Wischhafen.
The previous night I had taken a risk charging my GPS device in the toilets. There was only one other couple on the site and all went well. During the day the sun was strong enough to get my solar panel up to half full, and it was sufficient to top up my GPS fully this evening.
The riding was good and the weather fair. I crossed the Weser again at Achim as I skirted round Bremen and left the beaten track for a string of small link-tracks that I had plotted on my computer and dowloaded to my GPS. Some of the roads were quite busy with cycle tracks alongside, often either nobbly block paving or with tree roots across them. The link-tracks were often concrete tracks between fields that wouldn't have been suitable for motor traffic. I came across a good café/bistro and had a filling Jaeger meat-based quiche with mushrooms, potatoes and salad.
The camp site was good with a restaurant and there were other cyclists there. I wrapped my washing line round a pair of trees and everything was dry by the morning.
