RLE to Corley Moor, 19 October 2022
I planned this ride for the Heart of England Cycling Club to ride on Wednesday 19 October, 2022, so to make sure that there were no unridable parts I tried it out myself on Thursday 6 October. After going through the Blythe Valley Business Park the route skirts the edge of Dorridge and Bentley Heath to join the Warwick Road cycle lane briefly before turning left onto Jacobean Lane. From Eastcote the route turns left and speeds down to Hampton in Arden and up into the centre of the old village where it leaves the main road, carrying straight on down to the footpath along the railway line and then over the old packhorse bridge following an overgrown footpath that is nevertheless ridable. The route then follows the bridleway through HS2 workings and round a landfill site eventually joining Cornets End Lane, to the Four Oaks cross roads and left down to Meriden.
The main road from Meriden to Filongley is currently closed for bridge works over the A45 so the route takes a small lane that bypasses the closure and eventually turns onto Kinwalsey Lane and then northwards through small lanes looping round the north of Filongley. It then turns south weaving its way along various lanes before turning west along part of the North Warwickshire Cycleway to Corley Moor for lunch at the Bull and Butcher.
The route then follows lanes downhill to Allesley where it follows a footpath through the busy roundabout at the junction of the A45 and Pickford Way. Thence through Eastern Green and straight on for Berkswell and up to the railway bridge and round two roundabouts onto A452 Kenilworth Road for a short distance before turning off left onto Wootton Lane and up to Barston. Turning south the route uses more lanes to avoid Dorridge before heading into Hockley Heath. Finally the route follows School Road to Wedges Bakery, but alternatively those familiar with Hockley Heath could find their way onto Cut Throat Lane directly to Earlswood.
