Day 6 – Friday 27 July
Shrewsbury to Ormskirk
Today the route was 74 miles long. It was raining in the morning so we hurried to pack up the tent and got away before half past ten. We met Liz for lunch at Delamere station. The countryside coming up through Cheshire was delightful but as we approached Runcorn the landscape became increasingly urban and industrial. We sheltered from the rain under a gloomy motorway bridge and then crossed over the Mersey on the bridge between Runcorn and Widnes. Liz had been trying to locate a campsite that accepted tents without much success and had stopped at a pub on a main road with a bumpy cycle path where we found her. We spotted the van and went into the pub for a drink. We chatted to the landlady about our tour and she gave us our drinks on the house. Eventually Liz found a site that accepted tents and she set off after locating it on our maps. We found the site eventually just as she was erecting the tent.
