Campingplatz Neßhof, Guderhandviertel

Campingplatz Altenbruch
What we’d intended
Saturday 11 August
Bullendorf to Guiderhandvertel
Our original intention was to follow the Elberadweg all the way through Hamburg without stopping. The Elderadweg route crosses over to the north-east bank of the river and takes a ferry along the Elbe from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken to Finkenwerder next to the airport, stopping at a number of landing stages along the way. It all looks very complicated from the map but no doubt we would have found our way through. As an alternative slightly shorter route I have plotted a route that avoids the river completely but does cut through Hamburg's southern suburbs. Either way we would have arrived at Campingplatz-Neßhof at Guiderhandviertel.
Sunday 12 August
Guiderhandvertel to Altenbruch (nr. Cuxhaven)
Sunday would have seen us taking another longish ride to the outskirts of Cuxhaven. There are lots of campsites around the coast beyond Cuxhaven but it would have been prudent not to go too far. The one at Altenbruch would have given us an easy car journey into Cuxhaven itself or we could have stayed to eat on the campsite that appears to have a nice restaurant.
Monday 13 August
Return to Hamburg
By car from Cuxhaven to Hamburg is about 85 miles on main roads and would take about three hours to get to the dock. That would have been practical for us to get back to the boat in plenty of time for its departure, though we would have had to be up early.
