Why a Personal Website?
A personal website can be a bit of an indulgence. Our purpose is to play with web design as a hobby at a simple and personal level. The content has turned out to be a collection of bicycle rides and other ancillary musings.
These pages are made with HTML and CSS coding, and were hosted on our BTInternet personal site. But BTInternet closed its free web hosting sites early in 2012, so we moved everything to a commercial host. There’s a lot to be said for getting to grips with coding without the help of editors, indeed they can be annoying at times as they try to do things for you that you had not intended. So although the earlier versions of this website are in strict HTML and CSS this part is controlled by Joomla. If you click on the Back to HTML button under Home on the menu you’ll go back to the original site, which you will see is not all that different. Why Joomla? – well, because I like a challenge and to some extent you can see I’ve got it looking much the same.
I must put in a word for the excellent https://www.w3schools.com website tutorial pages that have come to my aid countless times. Also, please do have a look at https://blog.astrid-guenther.de/en/ that gets deep into Joomla 4 (and is still relevant to Joomla 5) and has unravelled Cassiopeia for me.
